あいづち| Back-channel behavior

During a conversation in Japanese, the listener often gives short verbal reactions.

This reactions are called ” あいづち” ( aizuchi )

あいづち are not replies, but Back-channel behavior which let the speaker know that the listener is listening what the speaker is talking about.

あいづち is very important to have smooth conversation with Japanese people.

Watch the following video and study how Japanese people do あいづち.

The guy who is in this video just back-channeling by saying “ うん ( un = uh huh)” or ” あ~そう ( a ~ sou = I see ).

Now you know how to do あいづち in Japanese?

Let’s try using あいづち from today like Japanese people . (^^)/
